Nelson Mandela Day is celebrated annually on 18 July, Mandela’s birthday. Officially declared by the United Nations in November 2009, the first UN Mandela Day was held on 18 July 2010. The heroes are those who make peace and build.” According to representatives of Tennessee United for Human Rights, “In observance of Mandela Day and recognition of Nelson Mandela, Tennessee United for Human Rights (TnUHR) is introducing a new generation to the importance and relevance of Mr. Mandela’s work.”
